Solutions where it matters

At ESC 2010 Philips showcases the latest innovations around specific clinical issues in four cardiology areas that enable care providers to help their patients better:

• Timely Diagnosis and Decisions
• Stent for Life
• Minimally Invasive Interventions
• Sleep Apnoea and Cardiovascular Disease

1. Timely Diagnosis and Decisions

Our customers will discover our solutions for effectively managing asymptomatic patients – spanning timely triage, decision-making, and treatment planning. Philips offers a variety of innovative tools that allow clinicians to assess and diagnose cardiac conditions ranging from coronary artery disease to congestive heart failure to cardiac arrhythmias.

Solutions for Non Invasive Imaging and Diagnosis:
• iE33 ultrasound system
• HD 7XE ultrasound system
• CX50
• PageWriter TC70
• 64/ 256 Brilliance CT scanner
• Cardiac / vessel explorer software tools for MRI
• CVIS - Our Cardiovascular Information Management System
• Data information systems to better manage Ultrasound & cathlab
1. QLAB with Xcelera
2. Xper Information

iE33 ultrasound system -  the enhanced xMATRIX ultrasound system for iE33 features a lighter, more efficient transducer, the X5-1. This new technology provides a more complete imaging solution, allowing more patients to be treated and expanding existing diagnostic capabilities to include more disease states. The PureWave xMATRIX technology offers outstanding 3D and 2D image quality utilizing a single transducer allowing for the incorporation of 3D imaging into routine exams and fully optimized workflow. Clinicians who have experienced scanning fatigue will appreciate that the X5-1 combines the ergonomics of 2D transducers with the three-dimensional insight they need to make the most informed patient care decisions possible.

PageWriter TC70 - this state-of-the-art cardiograph features the exclusive DXL 16-lead ECG algorithm.  Additionally, it includes advanced ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) decision-support tools, as well as updated gender, age, and lead-specific STEMI criteria that meet the latest AHA/ACC/HRS recommendations for acute ischemia and infarction.

CX50,  Philips - is a compact portable ultrasound that delivers premium performance outside the echocardiography (echo) lab.

2. Stent for Life
At ESC 2010, our second cardiology area focuses on the Stent for Life Initiative, launched by the coalition of European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) and EuroPCR ( Their mission is to improve the delivery and patient access to the life saving indications of PCI, thereby reducing the mortality and morbidity of patients suffering from acute coronary syndromes.

As a project partner for Stent for Life, Philips Healthcare participates in defining strategy and providing other specialized knowledge and meaningful innovation by reducing time by clearing a path from Discovery to Treatment. We offer diagnostic and workflow solutions to care providers that can save minutes and muscle by helping ACS patients.

Discovery-to-Treatment Solutions:
• HeartStart MRx monitor-defibrillator
• PageWriter TC70 and TC50 Cardiographs
• TraceMasterVue ECG Management System
• IntelliVue patient monitors
• InnerCool temperature modulation therapy solution
• Xper Information Management Xcelera
• Allura Xper Cath Lab

Philips is the first and only company to offer both endovascular and surface cooling and warming systems with the InnerCool family of products to address the specific needs of patients, hospitals, and clinical practices. Backed by more than 10 years of research, demonstrating performance in multiple clinical settings and applications, Philips is leading the way in advanced temperature modulation therapy with comprehensive, science-driven solutions.

The Philips InnerCool RTx Endovascular System for cooling and warming provides advanced whole body temperature modulation therapy in a closed-loop system from the inside out. The Philips InnerCool STx Surface Pad System for cooling and warming provides a cost-effective, easy-to-use solution with an advanced pad design for non-invasive temperature modulation therapy.

3. Minimally Invasive Interventions
The third cardiology area features advanced solutions for the existing Interventional Cath Lab room that support the trend new minimally invasive interventions. Customers can learn how we can help create an optimally designed hybrid suite to perform a full range of procedures. Visitors can experience the technology via augmented reality onsite at ESC.

A complex combination of equipment is required in the OR – high-quality, high-resolution imaging with advanced 3D software to support confident decision-making to surgical tables, lighting, and more. With our 3D planning tool, we can help clinicians, administrators, and technologists visualize it. We also provide more information about trends in cardiac procedures and the imaging requirements that are driving the evolution of the hybrid suite.

Minimally Invasive Interventions Solutions:
• Allura Xper
• Allura 3D-CA
• HEMO + XIM system
• CT TrueView
• StentBoost
• iE33 with Live 3D TEE
• IntelliVue patient monitors
• Xcelera

4. Sleep Apnoea and Cardiovascular Disease
In our final cardiology area, we will highlight Sleep Apnoea and CVD. Clinical evidence has shown that treating sleep disorders in cardiac patients may improve their cardiac condition. Philips Respironics offers solutions for diagnosing, treating, and remotely monitoring sleep-breathing disorders (including both obstructive sleep apnoea and central sleep apnoea). We will also feature other ways in which we help extend the boundaries of healthcare into the patient’s home, because healthcare should be delivered wherever it's best for the patient.

Philips Respironics
Philips Respironics offers comprehensive solutions to diagnose, treat, and monitor patients with sleep-disordered breathing.  Clinical studies  have shown a link between untreated Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and an increased risk of uncontrolled blood pressure, heart attacks, arrhythmias, and stroke.  Effective treatment of sleep apnea may improve daytime energy as well as reduce the potential risk for these common conditions.
Sleep Apnoea Solutions:

• Sleep diagnostics: Alice PDx and RUSleeping;  Alice PDx is a diagnostic device for the portable screening, follow-up and diagnosis of cardio-respiratory sleep disorders to be used by sleep labs, office-based doctors and home care providers.
• Sleep therapy: Bipap auto SV and PR System One; BiPAP autoSV Advanced blends sophisticated, clinically-proven technologies to help make the most complicated sleep apnea cases easier to manage and treatment more effective than previously possible.
• Masks: Blue gel and Life series
Additionally, Philips at-home solutions help improve quality of life and clinical outcomes, provide patients easy access to clinical counseling, either directly from clinicians and nurses or via call centers and offer financial advantages for both the care providers and insurers.  Philips unique portfolio of products for home care allows caregivers to manage chronic cardiac patients holistically to address important co-morbidities such as sleep breathing disorders.

Philips Remote Cardiac Services
Philips Remote Cardiac Services extends the reach of the cardiology practice with solutions that help clinicians diagnose arrhythmias, provide long-term remote monitoring of patients with pacemakers and ICDs, and support self testing for patients on anti-coagulation therapies.
